Beijing Airport City
The developing strategy for the Beijing Airport City is to leverage on Beijing Capital International Airport air cargo transportation hub position and establish a world-class and sustainable airport city. It is driven by Beijing Capital International Airport. The Airport City Logistic Park, constructed and managed by ACL, will be one of the most important components of Beijing’s airport based industry
The Importance of Beijing Airport City
The Airport City will attract an inflow of industries and enhance the industrial structure of its surrounding areas as well as upgrade the infrastructure of those industries, improve the efficiency of the airport and its auxiliary facilities, and maximize the value of the land around the airport. As the Airport City is the engine of regional economic development, the implementation of the development strategy of the Beijing Airport City is of far reaching significance:
(1) It helps in the development of China’s aviation industry
(2) It enhances Beijing’s influence in the international arena
(3) It is conducive of an export-oriented economy and enhances the international competitiveness of Beijing (as well as Tianjin, Hebei and Northern China);
(4) It is favorable to the economic development of Beijing’s Shunyi District.
Beijing Airport City Master Plan
The planned area of the Beijing Airport City is 100 square kilometers, touching the 6th Ring Road in the northeast, Litian Road in the south, and Wenyu River and Jingcheng Expressway in the west. The Beijing Airport City will feature eight areas, which include the airport, bonded logistic, international trade, industrial, finance and commerce, international exhibition, ecological living and international education.
With the aviation transportation industry at its core, the Beijing Airport City will rely on the airport economic industry cluster, which includes the aviation auxiliary facilities, comprehensive logistics, high-tech manufacturing, modern services and exhibitions. It will strengthen value-added industries, supporting services and special projects, covering bonded logistics, high-value-added industries, conferences and exhibitions, hotels, businesses, trade, modern commercial and residential real estate and international education. It will become the future inland free trade port and international gateway for the economic development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei areas and the surrounding Bohai zone.
Beijing Airport City Functions: Airport-Related Economy, International Gateway, Ecological Satellite City
Airport-Related Economy
Driven by the airport-related economy and construction of an international gateway, Beijing Airport City propels the development of ecological satellite communities and developments. Powered by logistics and industrial parks, the airport-related industrial center will provide freight distribution centers, logistics parks and high-tech manufacturing centers, and will become a lever for regional industrial development.
International Gateway
Driven by convention and exhibition services and entertainment functions, Beijing Airport City, along with affiliated passenger transport centers, trade centers, convention and exhibition centers and business offices, will gradually develop into a platform for international exchanges and commercial functions in Northern China.
Ecological Satellite City
With the development of the airport logistics industry and industrial parks, ecological satellite communities, with integrated commerce, residence and recreation functions, will boost the growth of resident populations and form a healthy development structure.
Beijing Airport City Contribution
(1)The development of the Airport City will result in a higher growth rate. By the year 2015, the Beijing Airport City will produce annually 130 billion Yuan, an 8% contribution to Beijing’s GDP produced by an area accounting for only 1.5% of Beijing’s land;
(2) The development of the Airport City will provide many job opportunities and thus increase the local population. The Airport City will have the capacity to occupy a working population of about 500,000 individuals as well as 400-500 thousand additional residents;
(3) Beijing Airport City will become a region that leads Beijing’s economic growth.
